I first started making chainmail when I was in my early 20's. Making shiny things from

Metal Rings just kinda fell into my lap one day. I had friends who played Dungeons and
Dragons and always have been fascinated with medieval and fantasy movies like The
Beasmaster and Conan the Barbarian. Until one day, the guy my ex-girlfriend was dating
asked me to craft him a chain shirt. That took a whole year to make. However, it was a Lot of
Fun to Do! And I still enjoy bending metal rings into Shiny Things. Here are some of
my Favorite Patterns to Make.
Byzantine weave was one of the first patterns that I learned how to make. Also called
"Birdcage" or "X-Weave", this pattern of chainmail is also relatively easy to learn. I make
this in a variety of metals and ring sizes. It is mainly used for jewelry purposes or to add accents to armor.
Half Persian 4 is another form of chainmail that I make primarily for jewelry purposes. I
have made this pattern into Bracelets, Neck Chains, and the occasional Wallet Chain. Half
Persian 4 is a bit of a challenge to get it started, however once you get 4-6 rings into the
pattern. The rings simply fall right into place.
This pattern starts out with some simple European 4 in 1, but that's where the simplicity
ends and the Tedious part begins. This is also the latest chainmail pattern I have learned
how to make. After the 4 in 1 is complete, the sides are woven in Half-Persian 3 in 1
pattern. Then stitch up the opposite side once the desired length is reached. I have only
made this in neck chain style and as wallet chains.
In conclusion, I make chainmail items for a variety of purposes and reasons. Some of my
pieces I make out of copper, because it helps arthritis. Other pieces I make for friends and
family, as well as others who just want something unique made. And sometimes I make
things just to relieve boredom. All of the pics on this page were not downloaded from other
sites. These are all pieces I have made myself. Thank You for Viewing My Page!
